Visiting Orlando the week between Christmas and New Year’s – Day 1

28 Dec

So when we moved to Boca Raton, FL a little over a month ago we moved away from some of our best friends in the ATL.  Fortunately those same excellent friends decided to drive down to Orlando from Atlanta for the week between Christmas and New Year’s and invited us to join them.  We are staying in a nice VRBO house rental on the south side of Disney World and we all arrived yesterday evening. The house is located in the Emerald Island Resort (which is really just a big, gated, subdivision of homes for rent).  In terms of house amenities it is great.  Also close to Target and restaurants.  Not sure about convenience to activities yet.  We are right next to the defunct Splendid China Theme Park.  Here is the website if you are interested:  www.thedreamvillas.com

Today has mostly consisted of trying to figure out what essentials we need in terms of groceries (wine and margarita supplies for adults and kid friendly snacks for kids).  Collectively there have been two Target runs and 1 grocery store run already.  We contemplated going to a dinner show tonight but with the horrific traffic in the area it would mean nearly an hour drive!  So we are staying in tonight and planning on finding activities tomorrow.  Hopefully the earlier we get somewhere the better.  I’ve also started doing research on ticket prices (which always seem a bit mysterious to me) and weighing getting annual passes with our new Florida resident status!
